Feedback on Rough cut

In last Thursday's lesson (25/10/12) some of our target audience watched our rough cut music video, we then asked them to fill out these feedback from, that are shown below here. So that we could get an idea of what they liked, what they think could be improved or changed. As this will help when we are re-filming for the final version of the music video. The feedback forms that were filled in are shown below here, to see them bigger click on the images and they will be made full screen.

The main things that our target audience said that we should improve on is the following:
  • Not to film in the drama hall, find a new location for these parts.
  • The lighting in the performance parts.
  • Performance needs to be more in focus.
  • Alex hitting the chairs over in the drama hall, as the chairs are clearly school chairs.
  • Video needs to be more fluent.
  • Jack needs to learn to play the song on the keyboard better.
  • Try not to shoot into the sunlight (performance)
We will be improving on all of these things that have been said above about the improvements. That our target audience thinks that we should on for the final version of the music video.

We got some more improvements from some more of our target audience:
  • Jack needs to have a stronger performance on the keyboard.
  • No smiling, when should not be.
  • Make more of the black and white in the video.
  • Shorter frames.
  • Less running in the streets, there is too much of this.
  • Less stairs
  • Re-shoot the shots in the drama hall, with a spotlight and the rest of the lights of.
  • When they are in the circle they need to whisper and move in on Alex. So it like they are closing in on him.
  • Change the photo at the start of video.
  • Needs to have more mise-en-scene.
They also said some things that they liked about the rough cut of the video:
  • They said that they liked all of the scenes on the metro.
  • That the performance scenes are good, but need to be less dark.
  • Alex is good main character in the narrative.
  • Narrative is good, really like the idea of the people turning grey.
  • The punching of the glass.

Week beginning 22nd October

At the start of this week we started to edit and put together our rough cut of our music video. As the rough cut has to be finished and handed in for the 24th October, which is this Wednesday. We have also been starting to design and make the digipack and advert.

We started a bit of work on the digipack last week, and this week we have the front cover for the digipack, this may be the final version or may not be depending on what our target audience think about this cover. On Monday we started to make the advert. The digipack and advert both have to be handed in on Monday 3rd December. We have started making this now so that we can go through a couple of different versions before we have to hand them both in. Below here is a link to a post about starting to make both of these, which also has images in off the advert and the digipack:

Below here is also a link to the actual video of the rough cut:

Rough cut music video

On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday we were editing together the rough cut for the music video. We were also starting to make both the advert and the digipack. On Thursday in the lesson we watched other groups rough cuts and they watched our. We then got feedback on our rough cut from the other groups in our class. There is a link here below that is for the feedback that we got from our rough cut from our target audience:

Feedback on Rough cut

In Friday's lesson we started to plan out what we will need to re-film for the final cut. Through watching through our rough cut music video and choosing what we will be re-doing and what we will be keeping. We also start to think about if we will be changing any parts of the music video.

Filming and editing Rough cut

Over the week beginning the 15th October, we filmed all of the narrative, for the rough cut and on Saturday 13th October we filmed the performance part of the music video. These was posts done that explain what filming we did, there are links to these below here:

Performance filming

Monday and Wednesday narrative filming

Thursday narrative filming

We started to editing together the rough cut of the music video after we had finished filming. Before we could start editing we had to convert all of the videos that we had taken. After we had converted all of the videos, we started edited the videos through putting together the music video through choosing which videos we needed to use and which parts we would be using. When we were putting the music video together we used our storyboard to make sure that the video was coming together the way that we wanted it to.

When we were putting the videos onto the timeline, we found that we had not filmed anything for the first ten seconds. So we had to use a image that we had taken when we were filming the performance, so in the final cut we will be making sure that we have something filmed for the first ten seconds of the music video.

Music video Rough Cut

The rough cut of our music video was due in on Wednesday 24th October. We reached the deadline for this, and our rough cut is shown here below.

Here is a link below to some target audience research on our rough cut of the music video:

Digipack Front cover

This week we have been making the front cover of the digipack as well as making the advert. Here is a link below for a post about the advert:

Advert

We started with only making the front cover, as we feel that the front cover is the most important part of the digipack. So we have focused on making the front cover first before making the rest of the digipack. The whole digipack is due in on Monday 3rd December.

We decided to use a picture of the whole band on the front cover of the digipack, and not only one person link we did with the advert. As this helps to show the whole band. We took some pictures when we were filming the performance part of the rough cut of music video. The picture that we have used on the front cover of the digipack is shown here below, before we edited it.

Here is a link below to a post that shows the pictures that we took when we were filming for the music video:

Photos taken at Performance filming

We included the bands logo on the front cover as this needs to be on the front cover as it is one of the most important parts of the front cover, so that people are more aware of the how the album is for. There is then the albums name underneath the logo as people will see if when they look at the bands logo. The logo that has been used is the white version of the logo.

We put an effect on all of the band members, we did this through using Adobe Photoshop. This was done individuality for each band member they were then put together again as shown here on the album cover below.

The background that has been used for the album cover is of some trees, this picture was also taken by our group as all picture used have to have been taken from use for this coursework. This background helps to make the band member stand out more. We also put an effect put onto the background so that is not as bright and lighter, as this helps to make the band members stand out that bit more.

The third version of the front cover for the digipack is shown below here:

This front cover that is shown below here, for the digipack is another version that we made where the colours that have been used with the effect on the band members is more bright. We had chosen not to use this one, as the colours on the band members look better on the version of the front cover that is shown above here. This was our second version of the digipack front cover.

Below here is the same effect on the band members as in the other to front covers for the digipack, but with the effect being more orange like with the front cover that is show above here, that we have chosen not to use. The version of the front cover of the digipack has a different background on it. We through that this background made it look like there was to much of the same colour used. We also through that this background made the logo stand more. But that this background was not a good chose. We will not be using this front cover for the digipack either, this was our first version of our front cover.

First version of Advert

We started making our first draft of the advert this week. The advert is due in on Monday 3rd December. We wanted to start the advert earlier so that  we would have longer design and make it. So that we can have a couple of different versions of the advert, as then we will be able to get feedback from our target audience, on it and then we will be able to improve on the advert.

For the advert we did not want to have the whole band on the advert, as this would mean that there would be less space on the advert for text. So we chose to only include Alex on the advert, as he is the main singer of the band and he is also the person that is in the narrative in the music video.

We included the bands logo on the advert, as this is one of the most important part of the advert. As without the bands logo most people will not know what band the advert is for. We have made the logo big as on a lot of the adverts that we have looked at for our research the band name or logo is very large. We then chose to include the name of the album under the logo, as the logo is something that will be looked first.

We have made the date of release for the album very big  so that when you look at the advert it will be one of the first things that is looked at. As on a lot of adverts that we have looked at the date has been large so that it can be seen well.

There is then a list of the songs that are on the album  There are shaped around Alex, which means that when you look at Alex your eyes are more drawn to the tracks that are on the album. The track names and numbers are smaller than the other part of text that says that the CD included the song Lousing touch. As the part about the losing touch single is important as that is the song that the music video is for.

The background for the avert starts darker at the bottom and gets lighter as it goes up. This is why at the bottom of the advert the text is white, so that it can be read on the darker colours and also as it makes it stand out more. This is the same with the top of the advert with the text being black.

The advert is shown below here:

We got some target audience feedback on the first version of the advert, there is a link to this below here:

Designing and making of the Digipack and Advert

At the end of last week we started to design both the digipack and the advert. This week we have started to make both of them. The digipack and the advert are both due in on Monday 3rd December.

We started to make the the front cover of the digpack this week. We have not started to make the whole digipack yet, but we have been making a couple of different versions for the front cover. We wanted to start making the digipack, so that when it came closer to the deadline that we will have made a couple of different versions of the digipack. As we wanted to show the different versions to our target audience. To make sure that our target audience liked the digipack that we decide to use.

For the digipack we wanted to use a picture of the whole band on the cover. We took some pictures when we were filming the performance, so we chose to use one of this pictures for the front cover of the digipack. The picture that we used is the one that is shown below here.

There is a link show here below that is for a post that is more detail about the making of the digipack:

Digipack front cover

We also wanted to start making the advert, at the same time. As there should be a theme that is similar for both the advert and the digipack. So we thought that the best way to do this would be to make them both at the same time.

For the advert we again wanted to have an picture on the advert, so for this we chose to use a picture of just Alex as he is meant to be the lead singer and he is also in the narrative. So for the advert we chose to use just Alex and not the whole band. We also wanted to put the bands name onto the advert so that people would know how the advert would be for. The advert is shown here below. To see a whole post about the advert click on the link here below:

Week beginning 15th October

On Saturday 13th, we filmed the performance part of the music video, we filmed this at sunrise. There is a link below here that is for a post that we have that is about the filming that we did on Saturday morning.

Saturday Filming

On Monday we filmed some more parts of the music video, we filmed some of the narrative parts of the video. The part that we filmed were that parts of the narratives that are inside the house. These are the parts where Alex goes in his house, he goes up the stairs and into the bathroom, where he thinks that he is turning grey and punches the mirror. All of this part of the narrative was filmed then.

On Wednesday we also filmed more of the narrative. We filmed the the parts of the narrative that are on the metro and also the parts in town. Below here is a link to a post that is about the filming that we did on Monday and Wednesday.

Monday,Wednesday Filming

We also did some more filming on Thursday, which was the rest of the narrative filming. We filmed this in the drama hall, at lunch. There is a link below that is for the post that we did about the filming on Thursday.

Thursday Filming

After are filming at lunch on Thursday, we converted all of the videos that we had taken so all of the ones that we filmed on Saturday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. We then checked through the videos to check, if we had all of the shots that we needed. So then if we needed any more shots we would know, so that we could film them before we started editing. When we checked through them we found that we had all of the shots that we needed.

Another thing that we have been doing this week is starting to make the front cover of are digipack. We have     been using the pictures that we took when we were filming on Saturday 13th for the  front cover of the digipack.

Thursday Lunch Filming

Today we filmed the rest of are narrative, at lunch. We filmed the parts where Alex was in the circle, throwing the chairs, throwing the things of the table and the part in the corner that is at the end of the video. Below here is the parts of the storyboard that we filmed, today at lunch.

Monday and Wednesday Narrative filming

We filmed some of the narrative part of the music video on Monday. We filmed the part of the narrative that is in the house, where Alex is starting to get really mad and looks in the mirror and thinks that he is turning grey. This part of the music video that we filmed is shown below here through the hand drawn storyboard below. The images go from left to right.

On Wednesday we went into Newcastle to film the rest of the narrative part of the music video. We met up at Monseaton metro station at 7pm, as it was dark by then and we needed it to be dark.So that it would match the rest of the video, with it being dark outside.

We first filmed all of the parts on the metro on the way to Newcastle. We filmed Alex getting on the metro, the people looking at him, him freaking out on the metro and him getting of the metro as well. Below here is the parts on the metro that we filmed, shown from the storyboard that is hand drawn.

When we got to Newcastle we filmed the parts were Alex is running in the streets, the people gossiping about Alex, the parts outside Tesco, outside the Pub, etc. These parts are shown here below, from left to right.

We had another part of the narrative to film on Thursday. Below here is a link that is to a post about the
