Week begining 10th December
In Monday's lesson, we continued to edit the four videos for each of the questions. We also filmed some more of the videos that we needed for question one, two and four. The deadline for the evaluation was meant to be on Monday 10th December, but the deadline has changed to Tuesday 11th December. In Tuesday's lesson we were all editing our videos. The questions that we had to answer in the evaluation video were:
1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
2. How effective is the combination of your main product (video) and ancillary tests (digipack and advert)?
3. What have you learned from your audience research?
4. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
We then all had to make sure that the four videos were exported by 4.30pm. The blog is due in tomorrow on Wednesday at 4.30pm.
In Wednesday's lesson we did some work on the blog. As the blog has to be done by the end of today. We added things onto the blog like the final cut of the music video, made the videos in the music video analysis actual be shown in the posts instead of just the links. We also did a range of other small things to the blog.

On Monday this week it was the deadline for both the advert and the digipack. Both of these had to be handed in and finished by 4.30pm. We reached this deadline, for both of these. In Monday's lesson we finishing off the digipack, we did this through making the last changes. We also made a couple of small changes to the advert. There are two links below here, one of these is to the finished version of the advert and the other one is the final version of the digipack.

Digipack final version
In Tuesday's lesson we continued to do some work on the evaluation. As the evaluation is due in next Monday, which is the 10th December. We each did some work on each of the questions as we all took one question on each. We all finished writing down are ideas of what we will be doing for are question. There is a link below here that is to a post about the evaluation and what the questions are.
Evaluation
In Wednesday's lesson we also continued to do more work on the evaluation. We started to book out camera's for filming things for question 1,2 and 4. For question 1 and 2 a similar thing will be done. There will be videos filmed for these, with the question being answered in sub questions. For question 3 instead of filming something for this question, we will be showing some feedback that we got from our target audience explaining how the feedback that they gave us helped us. For question 4 we will be filming a gadget show style video to compare of two camera's that we used. This will be for part of the question and then other videos will be done for the other parts of the question.
In Thursday's and Friday's lessons we continued to make the evaluation.Through writing out what we were going to say, filming some of the videos that we needed and editing. The deadline for the whole evaluation is Monday.

Final version of Advert
Our final version of our advert, was also our third version. There is a link below, here that is to the our second version to our advert.

Target audience feedback on version two
Shown below here is our final version of our advert:
For the final version of the advert, we made the changes to it that our target audience had given us from the second advert. So we added the black bar across the bottom of the page, which includes what the advert is for like our audience said we should have. This bar includes that it is for an deluxe edition digipack, vinyl and download.
Another thing that we changed for the final version of the advert, was that we made all of the band members look more clear and a bit less cartoon like by re-taking the photo's of their faces. You can see the difference if you compare the faces of the band members on this advert to their faces on the second version of the advert.
We also changed some of the quotes that are at the top of the advert, as our target audience pointed out that Kerrang don't give out stars they give out K. So we changed the stars to being form MOJO. We also changed the quote from NME magazine, as our audience said that this quote was to personal. So we changed the quote and changed how the quote was by. So now the quote is "A must have album" from iTunes.
Final version of Digipack
We finished our final version of our digipack in time for the deadline. We made a couple of different versions of the front cover of the digipack, we did a post about this when we were at the start of making the music video, there is a link to this post below here.
Digipack front covers
We also did a post about what the digipack and advert should include, this is linked below here.

Target audience feedback on Advert version two
After we had finished making the second version of the advert, we got some feedback on this. There is a link below, which is to a post which includes the second version of the advert and it explains what we did with that version of the advert.
Advert version two
Some feedback that we got when we showed are advert to our target audience was:
Advert version two
Some feedback that we got when we showed are advert to our target audience was:
- That the faces were not clear enough and that the faces are too cartoon like.
- Another thing was that they through that the name of the digipack should be something else, so this will need to be changed on the advert as well.
- The quote by NME needs to be changed as it is to personal, it needs to be made more general.
- Need to add on that it is an advert for a digipack, download and vinyl, as there is nothing on the advert to say what it is for.
- The stars from Kerrang needs to be changed as they did out K's not stars, or change how the quote is by.
We will made on last version of the advert, this was the third version it was also the final version. We made all of these changes that our target audience said, to the advert of the final version. We re-took the photo's so that the faces looked less cartoon like when we added the affect to them. We also put on the bottom of the advert that it was for a digipack, download and vinyl. Another thing that we did was we changed some of the quotes. So we changed the NME quote to iTunes and made it less personal. We also changed the kerrang stars to Mojo, as they give out stars. There is a link to the final version of the advert below here.
Week beginning 26th November
On Monday we had to finish editing our final version of our music video. The final version had to be finished by 4.30pm. All that we really did on Monday was editing and exporting the video. We did also do one other thing which was a post about dealines that will be coming up in the next couple of weeks. This post is linked below here:
Deadlines coming up
We got our final version of our music video handed in on Monday. There is a link below here to a post which has our final version of our music video in.
Final version of music video
In Tuesday's lesson we watched our finished music video and also the other groups videos in our class. After we had watched these videos. We then looked at what we have to do for the evaluation, so things like the questions. There is a post below here that explains the evaluation.
Evaluation
In Wednesday's lesson we continued work on the booklet for inside the digipack. Some of the things that we did was we started to do the thanks on the back of the booklet. So we did the thanks from the whole band and also individual thanks from each of the band members. We also got all of the bands signatures, we then scanned them in. We then started to put the signatures on the front cover of the booklet and on the pages on the inside of the booklet that has a profit of each of the band members on. So each band members signatures is on there profile page as well as the outside of the booklet. We also choice the name for the booklet, that will go inside the digipack. We also did some other things to the digipack.
In Thursday's lesson we continued work on the digipack and digipack booklet. We added more thanks to the back of the booklet, as we had not finished the thanks. We also made some changes to the advert for the third version of the advert. We re-did all of the faces on the band members so that they looked more clear. We also changed the name of the album and changed one of the quotes. We also got some target audience feedback on our second version on our second version of the advert, there is a link to this before here.
Target audience research version two
In Friday's lesson we continued to work on the digipack. We completed the inside of the booklet, the profile pages for each of the band members. We did not put in the pictures yet as we will be taking these third lesson. We also continued on the main part of the digipack, we completed this, through the text, and logos. But we did not put the images in as we will be taking these third lesson. We made the changes to the advert that we were told would improve our advert in the target audience feedback.
Another thing that we did in our lesson on Friday was we started to look at the evaluation questions, and thinking about ideas of what we could do for each of these questions.

Evaulation, what it should include
We have now finished the actual music video. We now have to continue the making of the advert and the digipack. Both the digipack and the advert need to be finished for Monday 3rd December. The percentages of overall marks for the advert is ten percent and another ten percent for the digipack.
After we have finished making both the advert and digipack. We need to start the evaluation. For the evaluation we will be doing DVD extras. There are four questions that will have to be answered in the evaluation. The questions are below here:
There are a range of different things that we could do to answer these questions, some of these are listed below here:

There are a range of different things that we could do to answer these questions, some of these are listed below here:
- Before and after effects shots. Showing the rough cut compared to the final version. Before and after of effects been added.
- 'How to' technical videos. Explaining how something was done with the editing. So for example somebody explain how the black and white effect was done on parts of the video, with the rest of the things being in colour.
- Directory's commentary.
- Voice-over's. Of images and videos.
- Feedback sessions. From target audience research.
- Green screen work. Where people are shown next to things that they are explaining.
- Images.
We have not yet chosen what we will be doing for are evaluation, we will probably choice a couple of these things listed above. But we have not choice yet.
The finished evaluation has to finished and handed in on Monday 10th December by 4.30pm. The video can be as long as we want it to be, but we are going to try and not make the video longer than 15 minutures as otherwise we thing that it would be to long. We think that the video should be over 8 mintures as there is four questions so that would be about two mintures per question.

Week beginning 19th November
In Monday's lesson we talked about what we will be filming on Wednesday night and also how will be taking what equipment. We also started to make the digipack, through working out how many pages we will be having in our booklet that will come with the digipack. We also made the actual outline of the digipack on the computer. So that we can start to add the images in when we take them on Wednesday. We started to add the text onto the digipack.
On Tuesday, we made sure that we have the drama studio booked for after school on Thursday, as we will be re-filming the parts that we did in the drama studio on Thursday. When we checked, we still had the drama studio worked.
We also continued to make the digipack, through planning out the images that we will be taking and also adding more text and colour onto the digipack. We also looked at what the weather will be like on Wednesday night, as we want the weather to be nice and not be raining. Below here is a link below to a post about the weather on Wednesday night.

In Wednesday's lesson we continued to make the digipack. We continued to make the booklet that will be include the digipack. We came up with a name of the booklet of The journey to Success. We also chose a background, added the logo and band photo on the front of the booklet. We then started to talk about what images we will be taking on Wednesday night to use in the booklet for the profiles of each of the band members.
On Wednesday night we re-filmed the performance. We filmed at the quayside in Newcastle. Below here is a link to a post about changing the location for the performance filming.

There is another link below here, this link if for a post that is all about the performance filming that we did re-filmed on Wednesday night.
Re-filming performance, Wednesday night
In Thursday's lesson we had a look at the videos that we filmed on Wednesday night. We also converted the videos that we took. We started to edit the final version of the music video together, with the new performance footage that we filmed. We also continued to do some work on the digipack. We started to chose what song names we will have on the back of the digipack. We did no work on the booklet that will go with the digipack, but we did do some work on the front and back cover of the digipack.
In Friday's lesson we just continued to edit together the final version of the video and also continued to make the digipack. The deadline for the digipack and advert is on Monday 3rd December. Second version of Advert
Shown below here is our second version of the advert. The advert and digipack are due in on Monday 3rd December, a week after the final version of the music video is due in.
We did another post that is on the first version that we did on our advert. In this post it explains our ideas for the advert and what we wanted to do with the advert.
When making this version of the advert we used our feedback that we got from our first version of our advert to help use. There is a post about this it's linked below here.
When we were making this version of the advert we used the feedback that we got from our target audience to help us. When re-designed our advert. For our target audience research we found that it would be better not to include the track names on the advert. So we took this of the advert of the second version of the advert.
Another thing that we changed from the first version of the advert to this version the second one, was we through that it would be better to include the whole band on the advert. Instead of just Alex. We thought that it would be a good idea to include the whole of the band, as if somebody didn't know how The Influence were then they might thing that it was just a solo singer and not a band. So we have included the whole band on the advert.
With the whole of the band being at the bottom of the advert, we wanted to put the rest of the things on the advert at the top. This is similar to the kaiser Cheifs advert, there is a link to this below.
Something that a lot of people said in the feedback was that the date for the digipack release was to large. So for this version we made the date a lot smaller. We also change the colour of the font so that it is red instead of black. This helps to make the date still stand out without have the date so big.
We made The Influence logo bigger and put this at the top of the page. We then added the rest of the information above the logo, like the release date and reviews. The name of the digipack is shown below the logo in black text.
We kept the background the same, as in the target audience feedback, everyone said that they really liked the background and that it was interesting.
Something that we took off the first version of the advert, that we have not put on this version is the track names for the digipack, as the text didn't look good . Also normally the track names are not on the advert.
This second version of the advert is shown above here. We will be doing a third version of the advert where we will be re-doing the effects on the faces, so that the band members faces can be seen more clearly. There are also more changes that we will be making to the advert. The third version may be the last version that we will do, as the advert is due in on Monday 3rd December. The digipack is also due in on the same day.

Wednesday Night Performance Re-filming
On Wednesday night we re-filmed all of the performance footage for the final version of the music video. We changed the location of where we were going to film the performance to the quayside in Newcastle. There is a post all about the location change, that is linked below here.
Location change for performance
We filmed the whole song through twice, when the whole of the band was performing. This was filmed as long shots. a long shot of the whole band.
We also filmed shots of each of the band members. We filmed shots where you can just see them and none of the other band members. We again filmed them doing the whole of the song. We did this so that there would be a good amount of footage for us to use for editing the video together. Show below here are some examples of the types of things that we filmed, we have used the storyboard to do this.
Another thing that we filmed were shots which included two members of the band. We filmed them performing the whole of the song again, we did this twice. We did this again to make sure that we had a lot of footage to use and chose from when editing the video together. We filmed two of the band members together and then filmed the other two of them together after that. Here are some more examples shown below here.
We also filmed a couple of shots where we moved the camera, these shots so the whole of the band. As the camera moves around to each of the band members. There are no examples of this as this is hard to show with the pictures of the storyboard.
We did some other shots for the guitar for the parts in the song were you can really hear the guitar. We did this same thing with the drums. There are examples of this shown below here.
We checked the weather a couple of days before we went to film the performance, there is a link below here that is to a post about the weather on Wednesday night.
Weather, Wednesday night
We filmed most of the shots more than once, to make sure that we had all of the shots that we needed.

Filming we will be doing on Thursday
We will be re-filming all of the scenes that we did in the drama hall on Thursday. The screens that we will be re-filming are shown here below, through parts of the storyboard. We will be redoing all of the scenes where there are people in a circle around Alex. We are going to have it so that the people will be whispering to each other instead of them just standing there.
With these scenes where Alex is kicking things and breaking them. The things that we used to last time where things like school chairs and desks, so we will be changing this so that the things that he is breaking are not school furniture.
For these scenes when Alex is ripping the pictures off the wall, we used pieces of paper with pictures printed on them. So we will need to change this so that they are actual pictures and not just pictures printed on paper.
With these scenes where Alex is backing into the corner of the room, we are going to make this scene darker.

Weather, Wednesday night (Performance re-filming)
We will be re-filming the performance at the Quayside in Newcastle on Wednesday night, so we checked the weather. The weather for Wednesday night is shown below here. We will be starting to film from six at night. We want it to be dark for the performance, and the sun sets at 3.53. So it will defiantly be dark by seven.

For the performance we will now be filming at the quayside. We will be re-filming the whole performance, we will be doing lots of different shots and angles like we did with the rough cut version of the performance.
We will also be taking some photos on Wednesday. That we will be using for the digipack. The band will be dressed in suits for these photos.
We will also be re-filming some other town scenes. We are going to have to re-film Alex singing the line that has velvet chair in it. Here is this part, shown through the storyboard below.
We will also be re-filming the metro scenes, so when Alex is getting on the metro and also the one where people start to look at Alex when he is turning grey. These parts are shown here below through the storyboard.
Another scene that we will be re-filming will be the shocked scene, when people are taking about Alex. This is also shown below here.

Week beginning 12th November
In Mondays lesson we talked about the performance filming that we did at the weekend. We then decided that we would need to change the location for the performance parts of the video. There are two posts linked below here, the first on is on what happened with the filming. The second one is on the how we had to change the location.
Performance filming Saturday 10th November
Change of location for performance
In Tuesday's lesson we started to have a look at what we need to do for both the advert and the digipack. Our teacher gave a PowerPoint on what needs to be included for both. We then got to look at some past examples of digipacks and also adverts. Here below is a link to a post that is about the digipack and advert:
What should be included in our digipack and advert
On Wednesday we started to think more about what we will be doing for our digipack. We thought about some ideas that we have for the front cover and also for the rest of the digipack. We also started to think about if we were going to do a booklet to go in the digipack as well as the front, back and the inside. We thought about ideas of what we would include in the booklet. So if we would have the songs lyrics in the booklet, if we would just have pictures or if we were going to have a picture of each of the band members with something about each one of them.
On Wednesday night we then re-filmed some of the narrative parts of the video. We re-filmed the parts that were filmed in Newcastle. This included things like:
In Thursday's lesson we showed the clips that we filmed for the narrative to our teacher. We then started to edit together the final version of the video. We also started to actual draw out some designs for the digipack. We also talked about the ways that we would be able to make these covers and also ideas for the booklet that will go with the digipack
In Friday's lesson we started to make the whole digipack. We have made a couple of drafts for the front covers for the digipack. So we started to make the whole digipack and not the front cover. We looked at some of our digipack analysis's that are on the blog to help us with the conventions of the digipack. Here below are some links, to the digipack analysis's:
Snow Patrol- Up to Now
Kings of Leon- Only by the Night
The Killers- Sam's Town
Snow Patrol- Eyes open
The Killers- Greatest Hits

What the Digipack and advert should include
Digipack-
The digipack will be for the band that we have developed (The Influence) and not The killers. We have been using our digipack research to help use with the designing of our digipack. The digipack will need to be realistic and meet the conventions of the industry, we will do this through looking at the research that we have done. All of our digipack research is linked here below:
Snow Patrol- Up to Now
Kings of Leon- Only by the Night
The Killers- Sam's Town
Snow Patrol- Eyes open
The Killers- Greatest Hits
There should be at least be two different drafts done and target audience feedback should be used to improve on the digipack for the versions.
Four panes need to be produced as a minimum. These would be the front cover, the back, the inside and the spine. Decent digipack's tend to contain more than just the four panes.
There needs to be a consistent colour's and graphological style through out whole of the digipack. With images often being repeated on the inside to creature a sense of considency.
We are making our digipack on Photoshop.
Advert-
We have used our advert research to help use with the designing of our advert. Our advert research is linked below here.
Kasabin- Empire
The Killers- Day and Night
Foo Fighters- Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace
Kaiser Cheifs- Yours Truly, Angry Mob
The advert will be A4 in size. As this is the normal size of adverts that are shown in magazine. This advert will be for the release of the album, this album will feature the song and video that we have made. We will be using our advert research for the conventions of the advert.
Below here is some links to posts about the digipack front covers that we have done and also the advert first draft.

Change of location for Performance Filming
In Monday's lesson we talked about how the filming went on Saturday to our teacher. We then had a look at the camera booking sheet to see when the cameras are free. There was no cameras free at the weekends, which made use think about if we would be able to re-film the performance again. As with us having to filming the performance when the sun is rising, this means that we will not really be able to film on a school morning. We then through about filming the performance at mid day but we don't all have any free's that are at the same time. So we would not be able to film in this same location again, as the cameras are not free.
We then through about the different places that we would be able to film at. We had a think about the places that the killers and other artists that are like them had filmed there performance scene's. The places that they film there performances in are all places that we would not be able to film at. We then had a think about the places that we are near that would look good for a performance scene.
We are now going to be filming in Newcastle at the quayside, we will be filming the performance when it is dark. Shown below here is a picture of what the quayside looks like in the day. The part of walkway that is shown in this picture is where the band will be standing. The second picture shows the quayside at night.

We asked our target audience what they through about the change of location for the performance parts of the video. All of our target audience that we asked said that they liked the idea of filming at the on the quayside. So this is where we will be filming the performance.
