Week beginning 12th November

In Mondays lesson we talked about the performance filming that we did at the weekend. We then decided that we would need to change the location for the performance parts of the video. There are two posts linked below here, the first on is on what happened with the filming. The second one is on the how we had to change the location.

Performance filming Saturday 10th November

Change of location for performance

In Tuesday's lesson we started to have a look at what we need to do for both the advert and the digipack. Our teacher gave a PowerPoint on what needs to be included for both. We then got to look at some past examples of digipacks and also adverts. Here below is a link to a post that is about the digipack and advert:

What should be included in our digipack and advert

On Wednesday we started to think more about what we will be doing for our digipack. We thought about some ideas that we have for the front cover and also for the rest of the digipack. We also started to think about if we were going to do a booklet to go in the digipack as well as the front, back and the inside. We thought about ideas of what we would include in the booklet. So if we would have the songs lyrics in the booklet, if we would just have pictures or if we were going to have a picture of each of the band members with something about each one of them.

On Wednesday night we then re-filmed some of the narrative parts of the video. We re-filmed the parts that were filmed in Newcastle. This included things like:
  • When Alex got on the metro and his head was cut of.
  • Alex laughing when singing.
  • The parts where people are talking about Alex, under the lamp post.
  • Some of the running scenes.
  • The parts when Alex is walking past people.

In Thursday's lesson we showed the clips that we filmed for the narrative to our teacher. We then started to edit together the final version of the video. We also started to actual draw out some designs for the digipack. We also talked about the ways that we would be able to make these covers and also ideas for the booklet that will go with the digipack

In Friday's lesson we started to make the whole digipack. We have made a couple  of drafts for the front covers for the digipack. So we started to make the whole digipack and not the front cover. We looked at some of our digipack analysis's that are on the blog to help us with the conventions of the digipack. Here below are some links, to the digipack analysis's:

The Killers- Sam's Town

What the Digipack and advert should include

Digipack-

The digipack will be for the band that we have developed (The Influence) and not The killers. We have been using our digipack research to help use with the designing of our digipack. The digipack will need to be realistic and meet the conventions of the industry, we will do this through looking at the research that we have  done. All of our digipack research is linked here below:

Snow Patrol- Up to Now

Kings of Leon- Only by the Night

The Killers- Sam's Town

Snow Patrol- Eyes open

The Killers- Greatest Hits

There should be at least be two different drafts done and target audience feedback should be used to improve on the digipack for the versions.

Four panes need to be produced as a minimum. These would be the front cover, the back, the inside and the spine. Decent digipack's tend to contain more than just the four panes.

There needs to be a consistent colour's and graphological style through out whole of the digipack. With images often being repeated on the inside to creature a sense of considency.

We are making our digipack on Photoshop.

Advert-

We have used our advert research to help use with the designing of our advert. Our advert research is linked below here.

Kasabin- Empire

The Killers- Day and Night

Foo Fighters- Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace

Kaiser Cheifs- Yours Truly, Angry Mob

The advert will be A4 in size. As this is the normal size of adverts that are shown in magazine. This advert will be for the release of the album, this album will feature the song and video that we have made. We will be using our advert research for the conventions of the advert.

Below here is some links to posts about the digipack front covers that we have done and also the advert first draft.

Change of location for Performance Filming

In Monday's lesson we talked about how the filming went on Saturday to our teacher. We then had a look at the camera booking sheet to see when the cameras are free. There was no cameras free at the weekends, which made use think about if we would be able to re-film the performance again. As with us having to filming the performance when the sun is rising, this means that we will not really be able to film on a school morning. We then through about filming the performance at mid day but we don't all have any free's that are at the same time. So we would not be able to film in this same location again, as the cameras are not free.

We then through about the different places that we would be able to film at. We had a think about the places that the killers and other artists that are like them had filmed there performance scene's. The places that they film there performances in are all places that we would not be able to film at. We then had a think about the places that we are near that would look good for a performance scene.

We are now going to be filming in Newcastle at the quayside, we will be filming the performance when it is dark. Shown below here is a picture of what the quayside looks like in the day. The part of walkway that is shown in this picture is where the band will be standing. The second picture shows the quayside at night.

We asked our target audience what they through about the change of location for the performance parts of the video. All of our target audience that we asked said that they liked the idea of filming at the on the quayside. So this is where we will be filming the performance.

Saturday 10th Filming

We planned to re-film parts of the performance on Saturday. We met again near the pier in Tynemouth at 7am for the sun to rise at 7.30am. When we started to set up all of the band equipment, we found that we did not have a stand for the keyboard. Because we did not have the keyboard stand we were unable to film any shots that include the whole band or of just the keyboard.

Something that we needed to film on Saturday was the introduction part of the video. As last time we forgot to film something for this part of the video, so we had to use an photo instead. So we needed to film something for this part. We tried filming the whole band walking up to the performance, we filmed a range of different shots and angles. We are also going to be filming another type of introduction when we are filming in town, so that we have a choice to choose from.

We then decided that we would re-film some of the close-up shots of the band as the keyboard would not be seen in these close-ups. When we where trying to film these close-ups, the camera said that the camera had a low battery. We were able to film a couple of close-up's before the camera would not let up film because of the low battery.

We then had to stop filming as we were unable to due to the camera having a low battery. We didn't check that we the camera's battery to see if it was charged, so when it came to filming the camera's battery was quite low .

Week beginning 5th October

This week we have been planning for re-filming our music video. After getting the target audience feedback, there is a link below here to the target audience feedback that we got.

Target audience feedback

In Monday and Tuesday's lesson, we talked about the improvement that we will be making to the final version for the music video.  We talked through how we are going to be making these improvements. Like how we are going to make the filming for the performance lighter and how we are going to get a range of the different shots and angles. We talked about all of the changes that we will be making for the final version of the music video.

We also got some target audience feedback on our advert. There is a post about this and you can access it by clicking on the link below:

Feedback on Advert

In Wednesday's lesson we checked what the weather forecast is for Saturday as this is when we are re filming  Below here is a link to a post that is based on the re-filming that we will be doing on Saturday.

Saturday Re-filming

Another thing that we did in Wednesdays lesson was we got some more target audience feedback, this is in the same post as the other target audience feedback post that is linked above here.

In Thursday's and Friday's lesson we worked out who will be what instruments to town ready for the re-shoot. We also got the band logo printed out on a A1 sized piece of paper and cutted around it into a circle that fit the face of the main drum, ready for the performance. We got the I version of the logo printed out instead of the whole Influence logo. When we were putting the logo onto the drum this time we made sure that the paper was all stuck down well. As last time the paper on the drum was not stuck down to well, which you could see in the performance parts of the video.

Another thing that we did in Thursday and Friday's lesson was we started to make our second version of our  advert, after we had been some target audience feedback on our first version. We used the feedback we were provided with to make the second version better.

This Saturday we will be re-filming some of our performance. Below here is a link to a post about the filming that we did.

Re-filming on Saturday 10th November

We will be re-filming the performance this Saturday, which is the 10th November. We are re-filming the performance, as it was to dark when we looked at the footage. We are going to be using some reflectors to try and make the footage lighter, as we are still wanting to film at sunrise. Last time the faces of everyone in the band cannot be seen on the shot where you can see the whole band. So we are going to be using these reflectors to be there faces lighter in these shots. We will also be filming some more different shots and angles, so that we have more shots to chose from when the final version of the music video is getting edited together.

We checked what the weather will be like on Saturday, this is shown below. The weather will be sunny. The sun will rise at 7.29. This is the same as last time. So will be meet up at around seven like be did last time.

For our re-shoot we are going to film at the same location as last time. The re-shoot will take place at The Haven in Tynemouth which is next to Priory Castle and inbetween the two piers of Tynemouth and South Shields with the sun rising inbetween. However, we came to the conclusion that we will not be filming on the pier like be planned to last time.

Target Audience Feedback on Advert

We showed our first version of our advert to some of our target audience. Our advert is shown below here:

The feedback we received from our target audience is shown below:
  • The date is to large, it needs to be a lot smaller.
  • Don't like the way that the text is shaped around Alex.
  • Background is really interesting.
  • Effect that is on Alex is good, like this effect.
  • The fraying of "includes the single lousing touch and five deluxe edition songs" needs to be changed.
  • There is to much text on the advert, there needs to be a lot less text.
  • Maybe put the title of the album over the top of the logo instead of under it.
  • Needs to be more space on the advert, as it look to busy.
  • Maybe add other band members onto the advert.
